…if instead of sperm, males used a form of viruses to transfer their genetic material…perhaps a bacteriophage…and women used, say, a form bacteria as eggs.
These are the kinds of things I think about when i’m kinda-sick, haven’t done anything all day (when I should, except i’m kinda-sick), and am slowly going insane.
Find a room, by itself, somewhere. In a building that is used, regularly. But one that to someone seeing the room out of context, it isn’t obvious where or when it is. (of course this has some limit, but placing it in an international, large city, especially in an area with diverse styles of clothing helps). Then place four webcams in the room. one in each corner near the ceiling. Stream these 24/7 onto the internet, for the next 4 years. Publicize this, make it well known. At the 4 year mark, cut off the feed for exactly 25 hours. Resume feed, except in a different building. Re-enact all that was recorded on the first day of the original room setup in this new room. Repeat.
If possible, during the above, find some incentive for people to do things that break social conventions and taboos in the room, without revealing the room’s location. For example, have someone sing an opera in the room while it is otherwise occupied (unless of course, it is an opera house. In which case it might be best to have someone construct a kitbash sculpture in aisles instead).
Currently? Hypothetically packing, but in actuality browsing E2 whilst periodically running back and forth to the kitchen for handfulls of pretzels. Because they are delicious. But now i’m thirsty.
I made a new mix! This one is very different from the previous mixing and mashuping i’ve done, as those were all very dance-y. This one is a relaxed, chill mix. It’s been sort of a relaxed-chill kind-of day today. So it’s fitting. Took me most of the afternoon to do this, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Enjoy! Please give any feedback/suggestions you have on it, thanks!
Today I had hoped to do quite a bit of stuff, but I ended up waking up really late. Like, REALLY late (Mostly because of watching Paprika last night, and then playing Age of Empire 2 and CounterStrike for a few hours ). It’s an odd dissonance I have right now, because i didn’t do stuff from my to-do list, but I still feel like I accomplished alot! So here’s 2 lists of things I did and didn’t do today:
Didn’t Do:
Homework
Bookkeeping/Finances
Organizing next semester’s class schedule
Buying textbooks for next semester
Laundry
Cleaning/Tidying
Did Do:
Got new music, and listened to it extensively (another Professor Kliq album, Fatboy Slim, Planisphere by Justice, some LCD Soundsystem, even a little Michael Jackson and MGMT)
Went for a long walk. After supper. It was beautiful and enjoyable. Listened to music while doing so.
Made some ᐃᓄᙳᐊᑦ (or, in English, inunnguat) while walking, out of firm snow. It was fun! (What’s that, you say? Look it up!)
Sat and thought. About many things, including God, making music, and life in general.
Worried a little bit about a friend who’s isn’t sure what he’s doing with life. Prayed for him.
One of my favourite musicians right now is Professor Kliq, a little-known but fantastic electronic musician from Chicago area as of now. I found his stuff through Audiosurf: It’s a fantastic indie video game, that’s like a cross between tetris, guitar hero, and a racing game. And you can use any song from your computer that you want to play it!
But about Professor Kliq, his stuff is sort of one of those within-it’s-own-genre areas. It’s extremely hard to describe, but the nice thing is that I don’t have to! Why? Because he releases his stuff all for free, (though donations are great for him). Here’s his latest offering, “The Scientific Method, Volume II: Experiments in Sound & Perspective”, which is probably one of my favourite albums I have. Check it out. Seriously, even if you don’t like electronica, it’s nothing like the techno and such you’ve heard before. Oh, and his blog is totally in my blogroll over there in the sidebar, under the name “My Advice”
Actually, now that I think of it, TSMV2EiSP (suck it, long album name!) is one of my few “favourite albums of all time” that isn’t a live album. Hmm, if I had to break it down, well, let’s see. (Keep in mind, that this is just favourite albums. Some of my absolute favourite bands aren’t on here, just because I don’t have any full albums by them or because only certain of their songs are my favourite. Oh, and Click album links for a song from each.
Great Big Sea – Courage & Patience & Grit - Great Big Sea’s second live album, it catches them perfectly. Their energetic, often upbeat, sometimes wry and ironic Maritime Celtic-Rock is fantastic, the kind of thing that almost anyone should love!
Daft Punk - Alive2007 - Daft Punk’s most recent album, also a live one. I love their first live album, Alive 1997, but this one is rediculously fantastic. Insane mashups, re-cuts and re-mixes of their three studio albums into one huge, completely interwoven meal of delicious, delicious house/funk/electronica that’s good for all ages! This is also the electronica album that really pushed me into electronic music. Before getting it on a whim, I had some stuff from The New Deal, Xerxes, Will Star, and Alpha Conspiracy, but Daft Punk really pushed me out into this huge area of music I’d never seen before.
Justice - † (Cross)- The next electronica album after Alive 2007 that really pushed my musical interests out. I found this through Pandora in my Daft Punk Pandora Radio Station, ended up downloading the album to see how good it was, and it was SO GOOD that I went to Best Buy and bought it literally immediatley after listening through it once. Seriously, it’s a fantastic record. That’s a Soulwax remix of one of their songs, Phantom Pt. II, playing in the Audiosurf Youtube link up near the top of this post.
Spirit of the West - Open Heart Symphony – Performing live with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, SotW’s Celtic-influenced accoustic rock is a suprisingly fantastic counterpoint to a symphony. Sadly, I couldn’t find any songs from the album itself on youtube, but there’s some seriously fantastic stuff there. Maybe I’ll post a song or two and change the link here later…
Soulwax -Nite Versions Live at Fabric and 120 Other Places - The live CD that comes with Soulwax/2 Many Dj’s/Radio Soulwax’s (It’s complicated) new tour documentary, “Part of the Weekend Never Dies”. They do a fantastic job of recreating their stuff live, reinventing it really, not to mention the songs by Justice, Tiga, Daft Punk, and a few others thrown in for good measure! They remixed the Justice song in the Audiosurf youtube link up near the top of this post too!
Loreena McKennitt -Nights from the Alhambra – Loreena McKennitt has some of the most beautiful songs anywhere. A energized set of Medieval/Early music, with Middle Eastern and Celtic influences, her stuff is fantastic. Amazing music for evoking emotions of yearning, love, and wanderlust.
The New Deal – The New Deal – Just an overall great album. The first album I ever had that was truly an electronic one, with the music and musical philosophy conventions that many have (like transitioning between songs to create one big continuous stream of music), though I didn’t notice these except in retrospect after discovering a bunch of other artists and reading up on music philosophy a bit.
There’s probably a few more I’m missing, but these at least are all fantastic albums! Yeah.
Today was interesting. I got to hear a (relatively) random speaker on a topic close to my heart: Non-Christian perceptions of Christianity and why they need to change. But what really fired me up today basically came down to a friend announcing what I took to mean (by which I mean that I might be misinterpreting him) the following: “To be a good leader of possibly-amoral teens, you need to have been amoral yourself at some point at their level, so that you can know how to relate and deal with them.
I call bullshit. I can understand what was behind my friend’s thoughts, i.e. that you can’t be naive about things and still be a good leader over situations that get into those things, but honestly.
This just bugs me in ways that are hard to articulate. *sigh*
At least I kinda stood up to my friend and called him out on it, but I didn’t do so harsh enough to piss my friend off. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. Good, i guess.
Watched Gattaca and part of The Animatrix today. Gattaca was not what I expected.
Expected: Test tube babies! Everywhere! All the time! And maybe some dramatic moments
What I got: Actually a touching story of romance, friendship, and brotherhood. Plus a rejection of discrimination. And a fair amount of drama!
Downside of posting at work? Once work is done, you’re done posting! What I mean is that there’s still tweaking and added blogroll and webcomic links to be added yet, but I wont be able to get to it until some other time. But until then, peace.
I’ve had some blogs in the past. A bunch of them, actually. But I felt like I wanted a new one. Specifically, one that is somewhat separated from my other identities (Both in cyber- and meat-space). Now, this isn’t going to be completely disconnected from my other identities, but perhaps less explicit. Hopefully this will help me write more truthfully.
